Just Received ~ Direct from the Maker
I have admired Shosui Takedas knives for many years. The Takeda Smithy was founded in 1920 and moved to Niimi in 1951. They produce hand-forged blades and tools such as kitchen knives, hunting knives, hoes, hatchets, etc. A third generation master blacksmith, Shosui Takeda specializes in hand forging blades from the highest quality carbon steel, Aogami Super Steel (AS), which has added Vanadium. The blades are marked with “NAS” – meaning it is the NEW Stainless Clad Exterior / San Mai steel and Takeda’s Signature, all forged entirely by hand, as it has been done for generations. Each blade holds its edge extraordinarily well and resharpens easily.

Another traditional Japanese kitchen knife from Master Takeda – a traditional Funayuki Deba in the Kuro-Uchi style finish.
The Funayuki is very similar to a Gyuto style knife, this style allows for effortless rocking, chopping and long or short slicing, one of the most versatile knives you can have in the kitchen.
Please forgive the overlap in the pictures, this big knife challenged the size of my Light Box.
Master Takeda hand forged the Aogami Super Steel ~ this is the NEW Style of San Mai with Stainless Cladding over the Aogami Super Steel Core blade which is approx 6 1/2″ long and OVER 2″ Wide! This beautiful blade on this Takeda Funayuki has a clear full length Lamination Line differentiating the Hard Cutting Edge from the Softer Stainless Clad Exterior. Built for superior cutting / slicing performance!
Takeda passes his blades to another Master who completed the traditional Japanese handling process. This is the way that Japanese Swords and knives have been made for centuries. The Natural Rosewood handle is custom contoured in an Octagon pattern.
(Each handle will vary slightly in Color darkness and Grain)
The Nakago (or Tang) is sealed with a Natural Waterproof Resin.
Takeda’s Signature is hand stamped into every blade along with the AS for Aogami Super Steel designation. The Hamon is clearly visible and the blade is hand sharpened on increasing grits of natural Japanese Waterstones by Takeda to an amazing laser sharp edge.
This Takeda Funayuki comes complete in a Presentation Box with the Name of the Maker and the knife indicated on the front.
This knife will appeal to anyone who values true hand made tools with a rich history.
An incredible value for a Hand Forged Blade of this size and quality.
Takeda produces a number of these models so there may be some slight variation in blade finish, handle material grain, or presentation box.
