  I have been a Dealer for Herb Derr Custom knives for over a decade, long before I had a website I sold Herb’s knives at Knife Shows and Gun Shows, often to repeat Customers.  Herb’s pieces are sole authorship ~ he forges his own Damascus, grinds his own blades, makes his own Leather Sheaths and still finds time to Teach courses at a Community College on how to make Damascus.

I have only featured this Rare handle material once before!    

  I hand picked this beautiful hunter from Herb’s Table because it was the only one he brought to the Show with this special handle material,  a Springbok Skinner 

  Herb’s High Carbon Damascus is over 2,500 layers thick.  The South African Springbok Horn is Coal Black and has amazing natural contours.  

The Natural Horn shape flares out at the butt to make a Large, hand filling grip.

The Horn is is flanked (front and back) by Nickel Silver Spacers and a forward Stabilized Spalted Maple wood spacer for color.  

On this knife Herb has also added some Vine Filework on the Spine which looks great but has a dual purpose of also replacing Thumb Ridges for grip enhancement. 

  Herb really called upon his artistic talent when he matched the Springbok Horn with the African Ostrich Skin inlay in his Heavy Leather RH Belt sheath.  A truly wonderful combination of materials in this entire package!
