I have admired Shosui Takedas knives for many years. The Takeda Smithy was founded in 1920 and moved to Niimi in 1951. They produce hand-forged blades and tools such as kitchen knives, hunting knives, hoes, hatchets, etc. A third generation master blacksmith, Shosui Takeda specializes in hand forging blades from his New Stainless Clad High quality carbon steel, Aogami Super Steel (NAS), which has added Vanadium. The blades are marked with “NAS” and Takeda’s Signature, all forged entirely by hand, as it has been done for generations. Each blade holds its edge extraordinarily well and resharpens easily.

This is an absolutely gorgeous Large Gentleman’s Friction Folder
Master Takeda hand forged the blade for this from his Stainless Clad Aogami Super Steel ~ he left the Heat Treat Scale on the exterior to create a Kuro-uchi style finish. The Stabilized Cocobolo Burl handle has a beautiful Natural Grain and color.
The Blade is Opened using the hardened extended Stick Tang.
The Frame and Backspacer are thick Titanium.
The Lamination Line which shows the Harder Edge material is clearly visible and the blade was hand sharpened on increasing grits of natural Japanese Waterstones by Takeda to a laser sharp edge.
Takeda Marks his blades with his New NAS Logo, showing this is the New Stainless Clad Aogami Super Steel – along with his Name in Japanese Kanji characters.
A great traditional knife from a Master at his craft.
