Shosui Takeda Blacksmith

Fort Henry Custom Knives is proud to be a direct Dealer with Shosui Takeda

~ Direct from the Maker from the Blade Show 2015 ~

I have admired Shosui Takedas knives for many years.  The Takeda Smithy was founded in 1920 and moved to Niimi in 1951. They produce hand-forged blades and tools such as kitchen knives, hunting knives, hoes, hatchets, etc. A third generation master blacksmith, Shosui Takeda specializes in hand forging blades from the highest quality carbon steel, Aogami Super Steel, which has added Vanadium. The blades are Sai Mai with a Stainless Exterior and marked with “NAS” – meaing New Aogami Super Steel. Takeda’s Signature is on every blade, all forged entirely by hand, as it has been done for generations. Each blade holds its edge extraordinarily well and resharpens easily.

~ One of a Kind – Sterling Silver Wrapped Work Knife ~

This is a new model of a traditional Japanese working knife that Takeda created in 2014.  This knife is an Integral / Full Tang that was hand forged by Master Takeda with a San Mai Center of Aogami Super Steel over his new Stainless Exterior Cladding.

The handle of this special blade is tightly wrapped in a Sterling Silver Wire!  The Wire wrap creates a slightly grippy texture without being abrasive. This type of wrapping is so unique I have never seen another maker attempt the process.

Takeda explained to me that this type of handle takes hours to complete, it is spot welded underneath the wrap and also has 2 Ton Epoxy underneath. The Spine of the blade is contoured to provide a natural thumb rest area, no sharp corners.

Takeda’s Signature is hand stamped into every blade along with the NAS for his “New” Aogami Super Steel designation.

The Hamon is clearly visible and the blade is hand sharpened on increasing grits of Japanese Waterstones by Takeda to a laser sharp edge.

This knife comes complete with a thick, Hand Stitched Leather Belt Sheath set for RH carry.

This knife will appeal to anyone who values true hand made tools with a rich history.
