Shosui Takeda Blacksmith

Fort Henry Custom Knives is proud to be a Dealer for Shosui Takeda

  ~ Direct from the Maker ~

width=400

I have admired Shosui Takedas knives for many years.  The Takeda Smithy was founded in 1920 and moved to Niimi in 1951. They produce hand-forged blades and tools such as kitchen knives, hunting knives, hoes, hatchets, etc. A third generation master blacksmith, Shosui Takeda specializes in hand forging blades from the highest quality carbon steel, Aogami Super Steel (AS), which has added Vanadium. The blades are marked with “AS” and Takeda’s Signature, all forged entirely by hand, as it has been done for generations. Each blade holds its edge extraordinarily well and resharpens easily.

Rare Model ~ Direct from the Maker

This is a Very Rare example from Japanese kitchen knife from Master Shosui Takeda – this is a style that he only makes a few of each year.  Master Takeda started Forging his NEW NAS (Stainless Clad Aogami Super) Blade Steel in 2017 – this example was created BEFORE that switch and it has been in my Safe ever since.

The Yanagiba is a versatile, thin, light weight knife, with plenty of Razor sharp cutting edge. This Blade was Hand Forged with a Kuro-Uchi style finish. This particular example has Takeda’s Original AS Aogami Super Steel.

Master Takeda hand forged the Aogami Super Steel blade which is approx 9  1/4″  long (28 cm) and a full 1  1/2″  Wide at the Heel!

This beautiful blade has a full length Lamination Line indicating the hard edge that is necessary for superior performance!   Takeda’s Heat Treat process leave the Edge Hardness between 61 ~ 63 Rc.

Takeda’s Signature is hand stamped into every blade along with the AS for Aogami Super Steel designation.

 Takeda passes his blades to another Master who completes the traditional Japanese handling processThis is the way that Japanese Swords and knives have been made for centuries. The Natural Hard wood handle is custom contoured in an Octagon pattern.

The Nakago (or Tang) is sealed with a Natural Waterproof Resin.

 The blade is hand sharpened on increasing grits of natural Japanese Waterstones by Takeda to an amazing laser sharp edge.

 This knife comes complete in a Presentation Box with the Name of the Maker and the knife indicated on the front.

This knife will appeal to anyone who values true hand made tools with a rich history.

An incredible value for a Hand Forged Blade of this size and quality.

This is the LAST Takeda AS Blade that I have!
