Shosui Takeda Blacksmith

Fort Henry Custom Knives is proud to be a direct Dealer with Shosui Takeda

~ Direct from the Maker ~

I have admired Shosui Takedas knives for many years.  The Takeda Smithy was founded in 1920 and moved to Niimi in 1951. They produce hand-forged blades and tools such as kitchen knives, hunting knives, hoes, hatchets, etc. A third generation master blacksmith, Shosui Takeda specializes in hand forging blades from the highest quality carbon steel, Aogami Super Steel (AS), which has added Vanadium. The most recent blades are marked with “NAS” and Takeda’s Signature, all forged entirely by hand, as it has been done for generations. Each blade holds its edge extraordinarily well and resharpens easily.

This is a pattern that in my opinion no kitchen should be without – a traditional Banno Ko Bocho Japanese Kitchen knife in the Kuro-Uchi style finish. The KoBocho translates as “Small Knife” ~ a cousin to the larger Santoku, this is a light versatile, general purpose prep knife for all manner of Vegetables, Meats, etc.  Perfect for push cutting or slicing.

It has been more than a YEAR since I featured Takeda’s Traditional Japanese knives

Master Takeda hand forged the New Stainless Clad Aogami Super Steel blade which is approx 4  1/2″ long (12 cm) and 1  1/2″ Wide!  The Wide Blade design keeps your holding hand well out of the way of the cutting edge, plenty of clearance for larger hands also.

The blade of the KoBocho is Forged thin for amazing cutting and slicing performance.  The blade bears the Makers Mark and the “NAS” Steel Designation.

Takeda passes his Forged blades to another Master who completes the traditional Japanese handling process. This is the way that Japanese Swords and knives have been made for centuries. The Curly Maple Hard wood handle is Custom Contoured in an Octagon pattern.

The Nakago (or Tang) is sealed with a Natural Waterproof Resin to prevent water from getting to the Tang.

The Hamon is clearly visible and the blade is hand sharpened on increasing grits of natural Japanese Waterstones by Takeda to a laser sharp edge.

This knife comes complete in a Presentation Box.

This knife will appeal to anyone who values true hand made tools with a rich history.

Due to the Hand Made nature of each Takeda knife there may be some slight variation in Blade Finish, handle Wood Grain or Presentation box.

An incredible value for a Hand Forged Blade of this size and quality.
