JD van Deventer
I was very fortunate to begin working with several South African Knife Makers many years ago, I am continually impressed with the Quality of their knives and the value they offer. In my journey as a knife dealer several SA Makers have introduced me to other SA Makers and the list of quality knives that I sell from that country continues to grow.
The newest addition to my website is South African Knife Makers Guild member Johann van Deventer. His work has been featured in SA magazines devoted to Hunting but recently he has also worked hard at making folding knives of various kinds.
Fort Henry Custom Knives is proud to be a Dealer for Johann van Deventer
Direct from the Maker from the Blade Show 2012
A Friction Folder is the oldest Folding knife design in existance, examples of Friction Folders have recently been found in the ruins of Roman dwellings.
This knife will appeal to anyone who lives in a place where a Locking knife is frowned upon and/or a blade greater than 3″ can draw too much interest.
This knife is the perfect EDC size. The blade was hand ground from Bohler Uddeholm N690C Stainless steel. This steel is a very clean Austrian steel with a nice amount of Chromium to make it nearly maintenance free. The Flats are High Polish and the Bevels are Satin, this will allow the knife to be used and still look new.
The handles were hand made by JD, the material is a Black & Orange G-10, he has given the exterior a unique alternating Checkboard Pattern surface texture, very subtle but adds to the grip security. Also, the perimeter edges have all been chamfered for a very comfortable grip.
Johann has applied some contoured Thumb Ridges to the spine of the Extended Tang, very comfortable. The Stick Tang is completely recessed into the handle when open for a comfortable full handle grip. A nice Orange G-10 Backspacer adds color and stability to the design. (Note – that is a speck of dust on the inboard side of the handle, that is not a scratch)
Provided with a Low Rider Pocket Clip. A unique, tough knife especially valuable where carrying a locking knife is not permitted.
A quality knife at a great price, direct from the Maker.
