James Sponaugle is a Retired Tool and Die Maker. I met James (who is also from Tennessee) at the BLADE show a few years ago and his work just blew me away. The Tool and Die profession involves critical tolerances and quality work is paramount with each project. James is well known for his attention to detail and his Loveless Reproductions are especially popular.

Due to the Mirror Polished Surfaces of this fine blade, it was very difficult for me to photograph – please excuse any Shading or Reflections in the pictures, the knife is impeccable in person.
This is a Classic Loveless Boot Knife in Bob’s Preferred Material Configuration
- Crafted from .165 thick Crucible Particle Steel / CPM-154 Stainless Steel
- Custom Contoured Full Grip handle
- Fully Tapered Tang, Red Liners and a Lined Thong Hole
- Flawless Mirror Polished Blade
- Long Forward Sharpened Swedge
- Mirror Polished Nickel Silver Guard
- Impeccable Soldering job ~ appears to be one solid piece
- Hand Made Leather Boot Sheath
The Blade has an Incredible Grind as well as a Gorgeous Mirror Polish – the Top Edge IS Sharpened
No detail is out of place on this knife, even the Silver Solder of the Tang to the Blade (which most Makers do not eveb attempt any more) is flawless.
Note the Deeply Contoured Handles and High Polished Double Guard
James added Thin Red Liners as a subtle touch of color which help to accent the Green Canvas Micarta Scales ~ the Tang is Steeply Tapered to reduce the overall weight
A direct Copy in Size an attributes that James has recreated from a Pattern he received from Bob Loveless many years ago – this is a faithful and honest reproduction of a Classic blade.
James also Hand Stitches every Leather Sheath that he makes for his knives.
