In early 2021, I received a small batch of knives from Hiroaki. This Amazing Harpoon Bowie Knife that he made for me is a Special Hidden Tang version that I ordered in a Special Steel. This knife is rare in that it is one of the very few Bowies that Hiroaki has crafted in the last 2 years.
Hiroaki Hand Ground the VG-10 Steel blade with a Full Height Flat Grind with a Convex Edge and a Labor Intensive Hand Rubbed finish. The Harpoon Bowie shaped blade is 1 3/8″ Wide! Hiroaki’s expert Heat Treat that leaves the blade at 63-64 Rc.
Hiroaki chose some wonderful Stabilized California Buckeye Burl for the handle, it has Amazing Color and Grain. The handle has Large, Hand Filling contours, the Guard and Blind Bolt Covers are tough Black Micarta. Hiroaki makes the handles of his knives with the ultimate comfort in mind.
The Hidden Tang extends approx 7/8’s of the way ~ almost to the end of the handle ~ and it is completely covered by a Full Natural Micarta Overlay.
Hiroaki’s knives are super examples of Form following Function – no hand fatigue, no hot spots – combine that with High Performing Steel and you have an amazing Cam Knife.
Hiroaki makes his own thick Leather Sheaths, Hand Stitched. On this one he has added a new feature ~ a Full Kydex Liner.
