I have been a Dealer for Herb Derr Custom knives for over a decade, long before I had a website I sold Herb’s knives at Gun & Knife Shows, most often to repeat Customers. Herb’s pieces are sole authorship ~ he forges his own Damascus, grinds his own blades, makes his own Leather Sheaths and still finds time to Teach courses at a Community College on how to make Damascus.

Here is another Sole Authorship piece from Herb, it is a Long Hunter that he has forged with his rare Flowing Water Mosaic Damascus. This is a knife with artistic attributes, but I guarantee it will perform as good as it looks.
Herb explained that this particular high contrast Carbon Damascus blade is over 3,000 layers thick. The knife has a generous Full Grip handle of Fossilized Oosic The Oosic (also known as baculum) is used for copulation in a variety of very large underwater species of animals. A very unique material that was thousands of years in the making!
The rich colored handle is flanked by Nickel Silver Spacers and a Stabilized Box Elder Burl forward spacer for color.
On this knife Herb has also added some Vine Filework on almost the entire length of the Spine which looks great but serves a dual purpose of also replacing Thumb Ridges for grip enhancement.
The Heavy Leather sheath has the Skin of an Australian Cane Toad as the inlay. This is only the third time I have seen Herb use this material!
The Cane Toad is a prolific poisonous Pest ravaging the Australian Continent – read the entire history HERE Herb also added some Custom Tooling around the mouth of the Sheath. Nice snug fit and a wonderful compliment to the knife.

I acquired the “Herb Derr oosic long hunter” and I must say the pictures did not do justice to this magnificent work of beauty and rugged utility. I have collected knives for many years and seldom have I seen the unique craft that went into making not only the knife, but the sheath as well. All I can say is thank you Fort Henry for offering such high quality workmanship at an outstanding value.
