In early 2016 I approached Len and Derrick about a special run of Katana Pendants for my popular KATANA CLUB Members. Since the Steel Flame Katana had never been produced in Copper, we agreed it would make for a special piece. Steel Flame produced two Prototypes in Copper. However, they expressed these were very difficult to produce so they decided not to make any more. I gifted one to my best Customer and here is the only other one ever made!
Here is a Beautiful and Rare Steel Flame piece with easily recognizable custom attributes ~ a Solid Copper Large Katana – 1 of only 2 made!
You may have seen Derrick’s pieces on several of the actors of both “The Expendables” movies. This particular piece is a substantial size and weight ~ the OAL Length of the Katana alone is almost 2 3/4″ long. This piece is cast of Solid Copper.
The thickness of this Katana is over 1/8″ Thick
The Designer – Derrick Obatake born and raised in East Los Angeles has been designing and making jewelry for over 35 years. At an early age he was taught to be a machinist by his father. He is a Graduate Gemologist from GIA and has had formal training in traditional jewelry arts: Diamond setting, model making, casting, finishing and fabrication. He has extended experience in Die striking, and 3D CAD design.
