RAYMOND JOHNSON
Fort Henry Custom Knives is proud to be a direct Dealer for Raymond Johnson
~ Direct from the Maker from the Blade Show 2019 ~
I was one of the first Customers to discover Raymond Johnson at this years Show. From his small Studio in Florida he recreates beautiful, yet affordable, Japanese inspired works of art. We are proud to offer his work and hope to continue to do so for many years.
Traditional Japanese garments—robes called Kimono had no pockets; however, men who wore them needed a place to store their personal belongings, such as pipes, tobacco, money, seals, or medicines.
Their solution was to place such objects in containers (called Sagemono) hung by cords from the robes’ sashes. The containers may have been pouches or small woven baskets, but the most popular were beautifully Hand Crafted Wooden Boxes which were held closed with sliding Beads on Cords.
This is Raymond’s Kiridashi EDC ~ an Elegant little Package of a Nesting Wooden Sheath and Hidden Blade. The Sheath may be carried in a Pocket, Purse or Pack with the Cord and First Black Palm Bead dangling discreetly outside to assist in quick access.
The Sheath was Hard Carved from Gorgeous Cherry Braces and KOA Wood Front and Back. The KOA has lovely 3D like Chatoyance when rotated back and forth. Raymond Fit, Polished and Glued all the parts together in a Seamless union. During the construction also Raymond threaded the Tan 550 Paracord through the Body of the Sheath.
The Second Black Palm Keeper Bead and the Sheath Top are Friction Fit and will not allow the Top to accidentally slide open. To access the Hidden Blade, simply Slide the bead upward on the Cord, then slide the Bottom of the Sheath Down.
This reveals a Traditional Chisel Ground Damascus Blade with extremely Crisp Grinds and Beautiful Damascus Pattern. Raymond did everything on this knife himself except for Forging the Damascus. This Knife has a Green G-10 Blade Collar (Habaki) that when properly manipulated allows the Blade to be removed for Cleaning or Sharpening!
The Top of the Sheath allows for a Two Finger Grip with the Cord and Bead resting under the Pinkie.
If you are looking for a Custom blade for discreet carry and you enjoy the Japanese inspired designs then this is the knife for you!
A snug, secure Wooden Decoration that holds a secret only you will know.
