William Gordon Defreest made some of the cleanest and most beautiful Hunters and Skinners that I have ever come across. If you are not familiar with his work you owe it to yourself to seek out a couple of his knives for your collection.
A Barber by trade in the 1970’s Bill had a desire to make a knife of his own so he sought out the closest person that he could find that could teach him, a man who at that time had already begun making a name for himself in the small community of Knife Makers – George Herron.
Bill studied with George and by all accounts was a quick student. Most of Bill’s knives will exhibit the Herron influences – clean design, a fine Mirror Polish, Tapered Tang, superb ergonomics and this knife has all those features and more.
This knife was made approx 1983, Serial number 567. As with all Bill’s knives, impeccable fit and finish. Nicely matched Sambar Stag scales, Tapered Tang, Black liners.
Complete with Bill’s original Leather Sheath. Great Package.
