I have admired Shosui Takedas knives for many years. The Takeda Smithy was founded in 1920 and moved to Niimi in 1951. They produce hand-forged blades and tools such as kitchen knives, hunting knives, hoes, hatchets, etc. A third generation master blacksmith, Shosui Takeda specializes in hand forging blades from the highest quality carbon steel, Aogami Super Steel (AS), which has added Vanadium. The blades are marked with "AS" and Takeda’s Signature, all forged entirely by hand, as it has been done for generations. Each blade holds its edge extraordinarily well and resharpens easily.
This is one of Takeda’s "Special Sheath Knives". All of the knives in this line are collaborations with Masao Takahashi. Mastersmith Takeda hand forges the blades of these knives from 3/16" thick Aogami Super Steel in the popular American Drop Point profile.
Takeda then passes the blade onto Takahashi who custom fits the beautiful Amber Sambar Stag handles and NS Guards. This is the way that Japanese Swords and knives have been made for centuries. This particular knife also has Red Liners around the Stellar Sea Cow Spacer and a Lined Thong Hole.
Takeda’s Signature is hand stamped into every blade. The blade has a fine distal taper, the Hamon is clearly visible and the blade is hand sharpened on varying grits of Japanese Waterstones by Takeda to a laser sharp edge.
This knife comes complete with a custom fitted, thick Vegetable Tanned Right Hand Leather belt sheath also made by Masao Takahashi.
This is a one of a kind knife that is amazing to look at and will thrill even the most experienced knife enthusiast with its performance.
