Shosui Takeda Blacksmith

Fort Henry Custom Knives is proud to be a Dealer for Shosui Takeda

   Direct from the Maker

I have admired Shosui Takeda’s knives for many years.  The Takeda Smithy was founded in 1920 and moved to Niimi in 1951. They produce hand-forged blades and tools such as kitchen knives, hunting knives, hoes, hatchets, etc. A third generation master blacksmith, Shosui Takeda specializes in hand forging blades from the highest quality carbon steel, Aogami Super Steel (AS), which has added Vanadium. The blades are marked with “AS” and Takeda’s Signature, all forged entirely by hand, as it has been done for generations. Each blade holds its edge extraordinarily well and resharpens easily.

This is some of the LAST of Takeda’s Carbon Clad Aogami Super Steel

Another traditional Japanese kitchen knife from Master Takeda – a traditional KoDeba in the Kuro-Uchi style finish. The KoDeba is a very Tough style of knife used mostly for Meat preparation and Frozen Chicken and excels at filleting Fish, Cutting into crabs or chicken bones.

Master Takeda hand forged the Aogami Super Steel blade which is a very respectable thickness ~ between 1/8″ and 3/16″ thickapprox 4  3/8″ long (11cm) and this beautiful blade has one of the clearest full length Lamination Hamons that I have seen!

Takeda passes his blades to another Master who completed the traditional Japanese handling process. This is the way that Japanese Swords and knives have been made for centuries. The Natural Hard wood handle is custom contoured in an Octagon pattern.

The Nakago (or Tang) is sealed with a Natural Waterproof Resin.

Takeda’s Signature is hand stamped into every blade along with the AS for Aogami Super Steel designation.

The Hamon is clearly visible and the blade is hand sharpened on increasing grits of natural Japanese Waterstones by Takeda to an amazing laser sharp edge.
