Bill has been making knives since he was 8 years old. He grew up in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. Working on a small family run sawmill gave him an appreciation for cutting tools of all kinds. He served in the US Army for 4 years in the Infantry and has worked mainly as a machinist/Laser Operator for most of his civilian life. As far as his knife making career, he is mostly self taught but did spend as much time as he could with the ABS Master Smith James Schmidt when he was a teenager before entering the military. One of the main points Jim taught him was that no matter what you add to a knife cosmetically, it must be able to work as a tool and that is what he strives to make. He continues to learn more about knife making as he interacts with his customer and other knife makers. He and his wife moved out to Oregon seeking work in the knife industry in 1995 and haven’t looked back since. They have 1 son who, so far, shares his love for the outdoors and cutlery. He loves the North West and all the adventure and beautiful nature it contains. When not making knives or working the day job, he enjoys target shooting, hiking, camping, and kayaking.
