I have been a Dealer for Herb Derr for over a decade, long before I had a website I sold Herb’s knives at Knife Shows and Gun Shows, often to repeat Customers. Herb’s pieces are sole authorship ~ he forges his own Damascus, grinds his own blades, makes his own Leather Sheaths and still finds time to Teach courses at a Community College on how to make Damascus.

It has been over a Year since I had a Feather Pattern Damascus knife from Herb!
Herb makes than a dozen Feather Pattern Damascus knives each Year! This is a rare Bird indeed ~ a Hand Forged Feather Damascus Long Hunter
This Unique Damascus is very difficult to forge, it is over 3,500 layers thick. Herb has expertly Hand Forged this Fine Pattern, it is repeated throughout the steel so it is the same on both sides. Herb Quenching method leaves the Blade with a variety of subtle colors ~ very much like Oil on Water appearance.
The Stabilized Giraffe Shin Bone handle has Rich Mellow colors and Beautiful Natural Grain, very reminiscent of Ivory.
The Handle material is flanked by Nickel Silver Spacers and a Stabilized Redwood Burl Spacer for color.
Herb also gave this blade some unique Filework on the Spine, this would do double duty as Thumb Ridges if you choke up on the blade.
This is also one of the Thickest of Herb’s Hand Forged Blades that I have had, it measures a respectable .180 Thick!
This is a truly Rare piece from Herb and it would be among the best of any Derr or Damascus Collection.
