Description
HERB DERR
I have been a Dealer for Herb Derr Custom knives for over a decade, long before I had a website I sold Herb’s knives at Knife Shows and Gun Shows, often to repeat Customers. Herb’s pieces are sole authorship ~ he forges his own Damascus, grinds his own blades, makes his own Leather Sheaths and still finds time to Teach courses at a Community College on how to make Damascus.
Fort Henry Custom Knives is proud to be a direct Dealer for Herb Derr
~ Direct from the Maker ~
This Configuration is a Fort Henry Custom Knives Exclusive
This is the First Time that Herb has used Northern Birch Bark for a Handle
This Unique Hunter was made with a nod toward the Traditional Scandiavian and European Hunters who have used Stacked Birch Bark for Knife Handles for generations. Herb also used High Carbon O-1 Steel for the Blade of this versatile Hunter.
The Birch Bark must be Harvested, Dried and then Cut and Stacked Tightly before using. Once on the knife it is lightly Sanded to Shape – this handle is best suited for a Med to Large Grip.
Birch Bark is naturally resistant to Bacteria and can withstand Temperature Differentials that most materials cannot take. Easily refinished – the material feels warm and somewhat fuzzy to the touch.
The High Carbon O-1 Steel Blade measures .155 Thick and is a Respectable 59 on the Rockwell Scale ~ Herb used Cold Gun Bluing on the Blade to help with Stain Resistance. The Handle material is flanked by Nickel Silver Spacers and a Stabilized California Buckeye Burl spacer for color.
Herb also gave this blade a unique Thumb Recess on the Spine where the Thumb naturally falls into place.
This is a truly Rare piece from Herb and it would make an excellent Every Day Carry blade for those who like a Traditional knife.
The Heavy Leather RH Belt sheath has an exotic Lizard Skin inlay along with Custom Tooling around the mouth of the Sheath. Nice snug fit and a wonderful compliment to the knife.
This is the Exact knife you will receive.
Don’t miss out on this one.
