I have been a Dealer for Herb Derr Custom knives for over a decade, long before I had a website I sold Herb’s knives at Knife Shows and Gun Shows, often to repeat Customers. Herb’s pieces are sole authorship ~ he forges his own Damascus, grinds his own blades, makes his own Leather Sheaths and still finds time to Teach courses at a Community College on how to make Damascus.

Herb called me before the New York Custom Knife show and during our conversation he told me he would save one of his best knives for me, here is his rare Bullnose Model in a Unique Handle Material
Herb explained to me that his High Carbon Steel Damascus Blades are Forged to have over 2,500 Layers. Herb has expertly Hand Forged this bold Bird’s Eye Pattern, and it is repeated throughout the steel so it is similiar on both sides.
This handle material was Thousands of Years in the maaking. This Fossilized Stellar Sea Cow Bone handle has rich color and beautiful natural grain. HERE is a link to some information on the extinct Stellar Sea Cow. The Handle material is flanked by Nickel Silver Spacers and a Stabilized Maple Burl spacer for color.
This Size Handle would best be suited for a Medium to Large Grip.
Herb also gave this blade some unique Filework on the Spine, this would do double duty as Thumb Ridges if you choke up on the blade.
This is a truly great piece from Herb and it would be among the best of any Derr or Damascus Collection.
The Heavy Leather RH Belt sheath has an African Ostrich Skin inlay along with Custom Tooling around the mouth of the Sheath. Nice snug fit and a wonderful compliment to the knife.
