Before “Tactical” was even a faint blip on the horizon of the knife industry’s radar screen, Jim Hammond had already created a tough line of knives for the military’s elite.
I spoke with Jim at length recently regarding this knife, I will relate some of the history of the design and characteristics.
Here is an opportunity to own rare Jim Hammond Tactical Fixed blade Skinner – Serial #4
Jim is probably best known for his Tactical SEALTAC / Cobra Gold Tactical line, knives that are purpose built and performance driven, they all have a unique bold look.
This model started out as a design by a DELTA Team member who also come up with the name ~ Special Forces Scalper. Just a glance at this rare Tactical Skinner and you will agree that it is one bad cousin to the Sealtac!
This is a much larger knife than what it appears, the flow of the design is superb. The blade is full 1/4″ thick with impeccable Hammond grinds. Measuring almost a full 1 1/2″ inches at its widest point, this knife has some mass! The blade is Marked Serial Number #4 and Jim confirmed he has made “less than 10” of this model.
Glass Bead Blasted Blade, Bolster and Butt Cap ~ Jim explained that this is a very rare / non-standard configuration since he did not normally put Bolsters on this design. It has a very deeply and perfectly Tapered Tang and no Hammond Tactical would be complete without Jim’s signature ergonomic handle with Hand Filed Traction grooves and Thumb Ridges.
The extremely thick Leather Belt sheath his also unique, it is set for a Canted Cross Draw Carry and has a Double Snap retention strap. Perfect fit!
This knife is from a Private Collection, one Owner – purchased directly from Mr Hammond. It has never been used, carried or sharpened. It does have some tiny handling / storage marks to the surface of the Bead Blast, it was never stored in the Sheath and is in Near Mint condition.
Don’t miss this one.
