Description
William Gordon Defreest made some of the cleanest and most beautiful Hunters and Skinners that I have ever come across. If you are not familiar with his work you owe it to yourself to seek out a couple of his knives for your collection.
A Barber by trade in the 1970’s Bill had a desire to make a knife of his own so he sought out the closest person that he could find that could teach him, a man who at that time had already begun making a name for himself in the small community of Knife Makers – George Herron.
Bill studied with George and by all accounts was a quick student. Most of Bill’s knives will exhibit the Herron influences – clean design, a fine Mirror Polish, Tapered Tang and superb ergonomics.
This is an early knife and as such has NO SERIAL number. An impeccable Herron type Hunter / Skinner. Sambar Stag handles that are well matched. Satin finish, No Tapered Tang and No Liners on this one which all indicate a very early knife from Bill.
A simple yet elegant knife by a Master. Complete with Bill’s original Leather Sheath. Great Package.
