Shosui Takeda Blacksmith

Fort Henry Custom Knives is proud to be a Dealer for Shosui Takeda

  Direct from the Maker from the East Coast Custom Knife Show 2013

width=400

I have admired Shosui Takedas knives for many years.  The Takeda Smithy was founded in 1920 and moved to Niimi in 1951. They produce hand-forged blades and tools such as kitchen knives, hunting knives, hoes, hatchets, etc. A third generation master blacksmith, Shosui Takeda specializes in hand forging blades from the highest quality carbon steel, Aogami Super Steel (AS), which has added Vanadium. The blades are marked with “AS” and Takeda’s Signature, all forged entirely by hand, as it has been done for generations. Each blade holds its edge extraordinarily well and resharpens easily.

NEW Design ~ Direct from the Maker

This is another wonderful Japanese kitchen knife from Master Takeda – he explained to me that this is a style that he only makes a few of each year.  The Sasanoha literally means “Leaf of Bamboo” ~ it is a blend of a traditional Yanagiba and a shortened height Gyuto.

Forged with a Kuro-Uchi style finish. The Sasanoha is a versatile light weight knife, with plenty of Razor sharp cutting edge.

Please forgive the overlap in the pictures, this big knife challenged the size of my Light Box.

Master Takeda hand forged the Aogami Super Steel blade which is approx 9  1/8″  long (23.18 cm) and a full 1  7/8″  Wide!   This beautiful blade has a full length Hamon / Lamination Line indicating the hard edge that is necessary for superior performance!

 Takeda passes his blades to another Master who completes the traditional Japanese handling process. This is the way that Japanese Swords and knives have been made for centuries. The Natural Hard wood handle is custom contoured in an Octagon pattern.

The Nakago (or Tang) is sealed with a Natural Waterproof Resin.

Takeda’s Signature is hand stamped into every blade along with the AS for Aogami Super Steel designation. The Hamon is clearly visible and the blade is hand sharpened on increasing grits of natural Japanese Waterstones by Takeda to an amazing laser sharp edge.

 This knife comes complete in a Presentation Box with the Name of the Maker and the knife indicated on the front.

This knife will appeal to anyone who values true hand made tools with a rich history.

An incredible value for a Hand Forged Blade of this size and quality.

I have only One!

    I have two of his knives, they are ” hands down” the sharpest knife you will ever hold, and they are super light and so well balanced, I intend to replace some of my chef knives with more of his,
