Shosui Takeda Blacksmith

Fort Henry Custom Knives is proud to be a direct Dealer with Shosui Takeda

  ~ Direct from the Maker ~

width=400

I have admired Shosui Takedas knives for many years.  The Takeda Smithy was founded in 1920 and moved to Niimi in 1951. They produce hand-forged blades and tools such as kitchen knives, hunting knives, hoes, hatchets, etc. A third generation master blacksmith, Shosui Takeda specializes in hand forging blades from the highest quality carbon steel, Aogami Super Steel (AS), which has added Vanadium. The New Stainless Clad blades are now marked with “NAS” and Takeda’s Signature, all forged entirely by hand, as it has been done for generations. Each blade holds its edge extraordinarily well and resharpens easily.

Direct from the Maker from the recent NYCKS 2016

Direct from Master Takeda – the most often used knife in any kitchen, in American Kitchens this would be termed a Small Paring knife but in Japan it is called a Mini Petit (pronounced Petty ).  Forged in a Kuro-Uchi style finish – Perfect for all types of push cutting or slicing, this is one of those blades you will love to use again and again.

Master Takeda hand forged the Aogami Super Steel blade which is approx 3  1/8″ long (approx 9 cm).  The blade of the Petit is Forged thin for amazing cutting and slicing ability.

Takeda’s Signature is hand stamped into every blade along with the NAS for his new Stainless Clad ~ San Mai – Aogami Super Steel designation. The Hamon is clearly visible and the blade hand sharpened on increasing grits of natural Japanese Waterstones by Takeda to a laser sharp edge.

 Takeda passes his blades to another Master who completed the traditional Japanese handling process. This is the way that Japanese Swords and knives have been made for centuries. The Natural Hardwood handle is custom contoured in an Octagon pattern.

The Nakago (or Tang) is sealed with a Natural Waterproof Resin.
