Shosui Takeda Blacksmith

Fort Henry Custom Knives is proud to be a direct Dealer with Shosui Takeda

Direct from the Maker from the Blade Show 2013

I have admired Shosui Takedas knives for many years.  The Takeda Smithy was founded in 1920 and moved to Niimi in 1951. They produce hand-forged blades and tools such as kitchen knives, hunting knives, hoes, hatchets, etc. A third generation master blacksmith, Shosui Takeda specializes in hand forging blades from the highest quality carbon steel, Aogami Super Steel (AS), which has added Vanadium. The blades are marked with “AS” and Takeda’s Signature, all forged entirely by hand, as it has been done for generations. Each blade holds its edge extraordinarily well and resharpens easily.

Direct from the Maker

This is a pattern that in my opinion no kitchen should be without – a traditional Banno KoBocho Japanese Kitchen knife in the Kuro-Uchi style finish. The  Banno KoBocho is a light versatile, general purpose prep knife for all manner of Vegetables, Meats, etc.  Perfect for push cutting or slicing.  The perfect model for someone who has never tried a Traditional Japanese knife.  The Wide Blade design keeps your holding hand well out of the way of the cutting edge, plenty of clearence for larger hands also.

Master Takeda hand forged the Aogami Super Steel blade which is approx 4  1/8″ long (10.5cm) and 1  1/2″ Wide!  The blade of the KoBocho is Forged thin for amazing sliceability.

Takeda passes his Forged blades to another Master who completes the traditional Japanese handling process. This is the way that Japanese Swords and knives have been made for centuries. The Natural Hard wood handle is custom contoured in an Octagon pattern. The color and Grain of this particular handle is extremely nice.

The Nakago (or Tang) is sealed with a Natural Waterproof Resin to prevent rusting.

Takeda’s Signature is hand stamped into every blade along with the AS for Aogami Super Steel designation. The Hamon is clearly visible and the blade is hand sharpened on increasing grits of natural Japanese Waterstones by Takeda to a laser sharp edge.

This knife comes complete in a Presentation Box with the Name of the Maker and the knife indicated on the front.

This knife will appeal to anyone who values true hand made tools with a rich history.

An incredible value for a Hand Forged Blade of this size and quality.

Slight variations in blade surface texture or wood grain may differ from photograph.
