Product Description

Hiroaki Ohta

Hiroaki Ohta has been hand crafting knives since 1989 and began knife making Full Time in 1998.  His folding knives are prized the world over for their precision and beauty.  Hiroaki Ohta’s knives have been featured in the KNIVES Annuals and appeared in BLADE magazine last year.

Fort Henry Custom Knives is proud to be a direct Dealer for Hiroaki Ohta custom knives

~ Direct from the Maker ~

At the last show, Hiroaki brought me more of this his new design of smaller Friction Folder ~ each is Hand Made. These are also special in that Hiroaki used tough D2 Steel for the Blade!

Friction Folder is the oldest of folding knife designs, ancient Viking Age Friction Folders (or Penny Knives as they were called ) have recently been discovered in Rome where they were a standard item for men of wealth and privilege!

This example by Hiroaki has an Integral handle, carved from a SINGLE PIECE of Buckeye Burl ~ this wood is light weight but tough and has been prized for centuries in Japan for carving household objects and even Sandals.

The Blade is opened using the Integral Extended Tang.

It has a very smooth action, the D2 blade has no play in any direction and the handle fits in the palm very comfortably.

When opened, the extended Tang rests on top of the handle.

Hiroaki also makes his own Leather Pocket Sheaths for every knife, well stitched and holds the knife securely. This knife comes with a Black Leather slip sheath.

A wonderful knife that will appeal to anyone who enjoys a Traditional / Quality product.   I have several and all of them are VERY similar in appearance to the pictures.
