This is a very special collaboration knife, the blade was made from Shosui Takeda’s Aogami Super Steel !
An amazing knife in design and function, simple yet elegant.
A Friction Folder is the oldest of folding knife designs, ancient Viking Age Friction Folders (or Penny Knives as they were called ) have recently been discovered in Rome where they were a standard item for men of wealth and privilege!
This example by Hiroaki is a Mini Friction Folder (about 1/4″ smaller than his normal size. He gave this one hand carved Presentation grade Desert Ironwood handles. It has a very smooth action and Hiroaki has designed the handle to resemble a Dog’s Hind Leg so that it fits in the hand very comfortably.
This was the second time that Hiroaki collaborated with Master Takeda and used Takeda’s Hand Forged Aogami Super Steel for his blade! Takeda creates this steel by making a San Mai of Softer Stainless Laminated over a core of Aogami Super Blue Steel with an RC of 63-64.
The blade is perfectly centered and operates smoothly, no play in any direction. When opened, the Tongue is recessed half way into the handle and Hiroaki has inset into that area a natural resin which helps stick the tounge to assist in keeping the blade open, very ingenious.
Hiroaki makes his own Leather Pocket Sheaths for every knife, well stitched and holds the knife securely.
A wonderful knife that will appeal to anyone who enjoys a Traditional / Quality product.
