I have been a Dealer for Herb Derr Custom knives for over a decade, long before I had a website I sold Herb’s knives at Knife Shows and Gun Shows, often to repeat Customers. Herb’s pieces are sole authorship ~ he forges his own Damascus, grinds his own blades, makes his own Leather Sheaths and still finds time to Teach courses at a Community College on how to make Damascus.

It has been almost 2 Years since I had a Feather Pattern Damascus knife from Herb!
Herb called me before the New York Custom Knife show and during our conversation he told me he would save one of his best knives for me, here is his rare Feather Pattern Damascus Bullnose
Herb makes very few of his Rare Feather Pattern blades
This Unique Damascus is very difficult to forge, it is over 2,500 layers thick. Herb has expertly Hand Forged the fine Pattern, it is repeated throughout the steel so it is the same on both sides.
The Fossilized Stellar Sea Cow Bone handle has rich color and beautiful natural grain. HERE is a link to some information on the extinct Stellar Sea Cow. The Handle material is flanked by Nickel Silver Spacers and a Stabilized Buckeye Burl spacer for color.
Herb also gave this blade some unique Filework on the Spine, this would do double duty as Thumb Ridges if you choke up on the blade.
This is also one of the Thickest of Herb’s Hand Forged Blades that I have had, it measures a respectable .178 Thick!
This is a truly Rare piece from Herb and it would be among the best of any Derr or Damascus Collection.
The Heavy Leather RH Belt sheath has an exotic Ostrich Skin inlay along with Custom Tooling around the mouth of the Sheath. Nice snug fit and a wonderful compliment to the knife.
